A RadGrad Onboarding session introduces 20 or more students to RadGrad simultaneously. Here are things to remember:
Onboarding advance preparation
Increase container size. Prior to the onboarding session, increase the container size in Galaxy. Go to Settings > Scaling and change the container size from Standard (Pro) to Double (Pro) or even Quad. This doubles the hourly cost and takes only a few seconds to change, so it is advisable to do it just before the onboarding session starts, and then scale back immediately after the onboarding session ends. Increasing the container size is important to allow many users to login simultaneously. Do not increase the number of containers, since that is known to have created problems with our CAS authentication plugin which cannot handle multiple containers.
Sample Student Login. Login to RadGrad, choose Sample Student prior to start of ppt.
Onboarding session outline
Powerpoint. Start the onboarding session by going through the powerpoint in radgrad resource repo. People can login whenever. Then put your laptop screen to the 45 degree angle (so you are not distracted by the wonderfulness that is RadGrad).
After ppt finished, confirm everyone is logged in.
Guided Tour. Switch from PPT to the Sample Student browser window. In the About Me panel, go through the following:
- Browse and select career goals.
- Browse and select interests.
- Browse and select academic plan.
Go to Degree Planner:
- Add academic years.
- Add some courses.
- Add some opportunities using Inspector.
For prior oppportunities that they want credit for:
- Drag opportunity to prior semester.
- Request verification in Inspector.
- Tell us, so we can verify it.
Review their ICE to see what they still need to do.
Hand out stickers based on levels. On the Home/Levels page, you can read hints about how to get to the next Level.
